Most crypto cards make you sell to spend. ether.fi Cash is a non-custodial Visa credit card: you deposit ETH or USDC into a vault you control, and either spend from balance or borrow against your staked ETH while it keeps earning restaking yield. Cashback lands as USDC, credited automatically on each qualifying purchase — ether.fi moved rewards off wETH to stable-denominated payouts in 2026.

The economics stack in a way no debit card can match: your idle USDC earns vault yield, your ETH collateral keeps its staking APR, and spending earns 3% on top — at the free Core tier, on your first $2,000 of monthly spend, with caps rising to $10,000 (Luxe) and $50,000 (Pinnacle); invite-only VIP lists 4%. A September 11, 2026 membership revamp added category boosts and faster tier progression. There are no monthly repayment minimums, no credit check, and the card comes with real Visa credit protections — purchase protection, extended warranty, and rental cover.

Licensing: ether.fi is not a licensed financial firm and says so in its cardholder agreement: it is “not licensed to provide any financial services”, including payment services, e-money, digital assets or lending. The Visa card is issued by a third-party issuer under its own licence (the agreement refers to Rain), and the vault that holds your collateral is a smart contract, not a regulated custodian. No MiCA authorisation is named, so EU consumer protections cover the card payment itself, not the crypto behind it.

What works

  • 3% back in USDC at every tier, including free Core
  • Spend without selling: borrow mode against staked ETH
  • $0 annual fee, no credit check, Apple & Google Pay
  • Self-custodial — your keys, your vault
  • Purchase protection and extended warranty (rare in crypto)

What doesn't

  • 3% only up to your tier's monthly cap — $2,000 at free Core
  • 1% FX outside USD/EUR; EUR spend runs an adjusted cashback ladder
  • Borrow Mode accrues variable Aave interest immediately — the 0% promo ended
  • Borrow mode carries liquidation risk if ETH drops hard
  • More complex than a simple top-up debit card
Watch outThe ladder is the catch: Core earns 3% only on the first $2,000 of monthly spend, and the September 11 membership revamp is still rolling out — verify current rates and category boosts in-app before counting on them. Never borrow near your liquidation threshold. Not available in a few EU states, including the Netherlands, Finland, Estonia and Hungary.

Who it's for: anyone holding ETH long-term who wants their spending, yield and cashback in one loop. If you'd otherwise sell ETH to pay bills, this card exists precisely for you.
