Bitpanda Card review

The straightforward option for euro-area residents already on Bitpanda: a free Visa, 1% back in whatever crypto you paid with, and no FX fee. It stops being interesting the moment you live outside the euro or want to spend stablecoins.

At €1,500/month with 10% foreign-currency spending, Bitpanda Card is worth +€180 a year after fees — Nº 6 of 13 in our calculator. Try your own numbers.

Licensing: the Visa is issued by Transact Payments Malta Limited, authorised by the Malta Financial Services Authority as an electronic money institution, the same issuer that stands behind Wirex One in the EEA. Your contract for the card is with Bitpanda GmbH in Vienna, and the assets you spend from are held on Bitpanda’s platform, so this is a custodial card.

Bitpanda relaunched the card in April 2025 with a simpler deal: a flat 1% cashback, no longer tied to its BEST VIP levels, paid in the same asset you used for the purchase. That last detail is both the charm and the catch. Pay with Bitcoin and you get Bitcoin back; pay with euros, stablecoins, metals or stocks and you get nothing, because the terms exclude every payment asset that is not crypto. Each purchase triggers an automatic sale of your chosen asset into euros at the till, and that sale carries Bitpanda’s trading spread. The card page does not state the spread, so the calculator leaves it at zero and you should assume it is not.

The fees it does publish are clean: no issuance or monthly cost, a €9.90 replacement, 0% FX on non-euro purchases beyond Visa’s own rate, and ATM withdrawals at 2% or €2, whichever is higher. Availability is the real limit. Bitpanda requires residence in a country that uses the euro, which rules out Romania, Hungary, Norway, Switzerland and the UK, and with it most of the readers for whom a 0% FX card matters most.

What works

  • Free card, no monthly fee, 0% FX on non-euro spending
  • 1% with no token, tier or subscription
  • Cashback in the asset you spent, so a Bitcoin spender keeps Bitcoin exposure
  • Maltese e-money issuer; Bitpanda is a long-established EU platform

What doesn’t

  • Euro-area residents only
  • No cashback when paying from euros, stablecoins or metals
  • Trading spread on every purchase is not published
  • Custodial; 2% ATM fee
Watch outThe 1% is only paid when your selected payment asset is a crypto-asset. Many users set the card to spend from their euro balance for stability, which earns nothing. Selling crypto at every purchase is also a taxable disposal in most euro-area countries; see the country pages for the rules where you live.

Who it’s for: euro-area Bitpanda customers who spend from crypto anyway and want a free card with no FX fee. Anyone spending from stablecoins, or living in a non-euro country, will do better with Bleap or OKX.
