What you’d keep in Ireland
Pre-set for Ireland. Change the spend and the ranking updates.
In non-euro countries this includes local spending — lei, forint, krone, francs or pounds.
Only affects Krak, whose cashback depends on your average balance.
Net value per year, in euros. Assumes you spend from stablecoins or fiat — paying from BTC or ETH adds conversion spreads on most cards. Category bonuses and promotions aren’t counted. ether.fi’s USD cashback ladder is applied as an approximation. USD fees converted at about €0.90. Paying in euros: FX only matters abroad
Ireland is in the euro, so the FX column matters for UK trips and sterling web shops rather than daily life. ether.fi Cash, Bleap and Krak are all available; ether.fi charges 1% on sterling while Bleap and Krak add nothing. Bybit does not offer its EU card in Ireland. Krak has a home advantage here: its MiCA licence is Irish.
Tax when you spend crypto in Ireland
Revenue’s manual on crypto assets uses a card-style example: a person who uses crypto to buy goods in a local café has made a disposal for capital gains tax purposes. So each crypto-funded card payment is a disposal, taxed at the standard 33% CGT rate on the gain, with the personal exemption of €1,270 of gains a year covering small spenders. If your activity is frequent and organised enough to be trading, income tax applies instead. Revenue has not published guidance on card cashback in crypto or in euros; treat crypto received as an asset acquired at its value on the day, so a later disposal is within CGT.
Funding a card from an Irish bank
Since October 9, 2025 Irish banks must let you send SEPA instant transfers, arriving within ten seconds around the clock, so euro top-ups to any card here are immediate. Identity checks are standard EU KYC with a passport or driving licence and proof of address.
This is general information, not tax advice. Rules change and your situation may differ; check with a local adviser before relying on it.
