Paying in euros: FX only matters abroad
Croatia has used the euro since 2023, so local spending carries no FX cost on euro cards and the ranking above is driven by cashback rates. Bybit’s EU card is not available in Croatia and RedotPay’s support is unconfirmed. ether.fi Cash, Bleap and Krak are all available.
Tax when you spend crypto in Croatia
The Croatian tax administration treats gains on selling crypto for money as capital income taxed at 12% plus any local surtax, while crypto-to-crypto swaps are not taxable. It has not published a ruling on paying for goods directly with crypto; the safe assumption is that converting to euros at the till is a sale. The rule that matters most is the holding period: gains on crypto acquired more than two years before disposal are not taxed, although they must still be reported on the JOPPD form. A card that spends your oldest coins first therefore has a real tax advantage, and one that sells recent purchases does not. No guidance exists on card cashback.
Funding a card from a Croatian bank
Croatia is in SEPA, and from October 9, 2025 all Croatian banks must offer instant euro transfers with payee-name verification, so top-ups arrive in seconds. Identity checks are standard EU KYC.
This is general information, not tax advice. Rules change and your situation may differ; check with a local adviser before relying on it.
