Hungary · Hungarian forint
The best crypto cards in Hungary
Hungary uses the forint, so local spending counts as foreign currency on most crypto cards and FX fees add up quickly. ether.fi Cash is not available to Hungarian residents, which leaves the self-custody field to Bleap and MetaMask, and MetaMask’s free tier loses most of its 1% to fees on forint spending. Bybit is available but charges 0.5% FX on forint purchases.

What you’d keep in Hungary
Pre-set for Hungary, where local spending in Hungarian forint counts as foreign currency on most cards. Change the spend and the ranking updates.
In non-euro countries this includes local spending — lei, forint, krone, francs or pounds.
Only affects Krak, whose cashback depends on your average balance.
Net value per year, in euros. Assumes you spend from stablecoins or fiat — paying from BTC or ETH adds conversion spreads on most cards. Category bonuses and promotions aren’t counted. ether.fi’s USD cashback ladder is applied as an approximation. USD fees converted at about €0.90. Paying in forint: which cards avoid the markup
Hungary uses the forint, so on a euro- or dollar-based card nearly all local spending is a foreign-currency transaction. Bleap and Krak add no markup, which is why they lead the ranking above. Bybit is available in Hungary but charges 0.5% on forint purchases, MetaMask’s free tier gives back most of its 1% in fees, and ether.fi Cash is not offered to Hungarian residents at all, which removes the highest-rate card from the field.
Tax when you spend crypto in Hungary
Hungary taxes crypto under a dedicated rule, section 67/C of the personal income tax act. NAV, the tax authority, says income arises when crypto is exchanged for legal tender or used to buy something of real value, so a card payment that converts crypto to forint is a taxable transaction, while holding and crypto-to-crypto swaps are not. The rate is a flat 15% personal income tax with no social contribution on top. Two thresholds keep small spending out of the return: a transaction is ignored if its proceeds do not exceed 10% of the monthly minimum wage, and the year is ignored if total proceeds do not exceed one month’s minimum wage. With the 2026 minimum wage of 322,800 forint, that is about 32,280 forint per transaction and 322,800 forint per year. From 2026, losses can be offset against gains in any later year if they were declared. NAV has published nothing on cashback paid in crypto.
Funding a card from a Hungarian bank
Euro top-ups go by SEPA transfer. Forint transfers use the AFR instant system, which moves up to 20 million forint in at most five seconds around the clock, and the qvik QR standard for requests to pay. Most crypto cards take euros only, so a forint-to-euro conversion at your bank or in the card app sits between your salary and the card; Krak and Bleap convert at the network rate. Identity checks accept the personal ID card, passport or card-format driving licence, and video identification is permitted under the central bank’s rules.
This is general information, not tax advice. Rules change and your situation may differ; check with a local adviser before relying on it.
