Gnosis Pay is shutting down: the best alternatives
Gnosis Pay is exiting consumer cards to focus on white-label infrastructure for other companies. Here are the key dates, what happens to your funds, and the self-custody cards that replace it.
Key dates
- September 30, 2026: last day of cashback eligibility.
- October 7, 2026: final GNO cashback distribution.
- December 20, 2026, 23:59 UTC: the card stops authorising payments and the web app closes for everything except withdrawals. Recurring payments on the card will fail from then.
- June 18, 2027: general cardholder support ends.
- June 12, 2028: support for refunds, disputes and chargebacks ends.
What happens to your funds
Nothing is locked. Your Gnosis Pay account is a self-custodial Safe on Gnosis Chain, and the shutdown affects the card and spending interface, not the wallet. Gnosis Pay cannot freeze, seize or move it, and says so plainly. There is no withdrawal deadline: the withdrawal page stays open after December 20 and the tool is open source. GNO cashback already paid sits in the Safe, unstaked, and the EUR IBAN, provided by Monerium, keeps receiving transfers into your own wallet.
Your two options
Move to a partner app. Gnosis Pay is retiring its own card in favour of cards run by partner apps: Zeal, Rebind, Picnic, GreenCart, MiniPay, the Gnosis App and others listed on its partner marketplace. Moving happens in two stages. First you move to the app, and some apps can import your existing card and Safe without new ID checks. Later, when that app switches to the new Gnosis Pay platform, you accept new terms and receive a new card with its own fees, limits, currencies and rewards. Which apps you can move to depends on which app you use today and whether your card is in EUR, USD or GBP.
Or do nothing and pick a different card. Gnosis Pay calls this a legitimate choice. Your card stops, your funds stay put, and you can join a partner later as a new customer. If the partner cards do not appeal, the self-custody cards below are the honest replacements, and several are better on fees than Gnosis Pay ever was.
The 5 best Gnosis Pay alternatives
- 8.3The closest like-for-like replacement: self-custodial, 0% FX, EEA and Swiss coverage, and cashback in USDC instead of GNO. MiCA-licensed since June 2026.
- 8.1The simplest move if you already use MetaMask: funds stay in your wallet, 1% back in the mUSD stablecoin on the free card.
- 9.1The upgrade for ETH holders: a self-custodial credit card with 3% cashback up to your tier cap. Charges 1% FX outside USD and EUR, and is not available in the Netherlands, Finland, Estonia or Hungary.
- 7.5Flat 3% in USDC with 0% FX on the $120 Metal tier — strong if you spend enough to cover the fee, though it is mid-way through an issuer switch.
- 7.0A free, self-custodial travel card with no FX markup. The 0.5% base rate is low unless you also hold WPAY.
Which one, depending on what you used Gnosis Pay for
- Everyday euro spending with self-custody: Bleap. Same model, 0% FX, USDC instead of GNO, MiCA-licensed, and it covers the EEA and Switzerland.
- The EUR IBAN for salary or transfers: Krak gives you a virtual IBAN inside a licensed exchange account, at the cost of custody. Bleap supports bank top-ups but is not a bank-account replacement.
- Travel and non-euro spending: Bleap or Wirex One, both with no FX markup. ether.fi charges 1% outside USD and EUR.
- Maximum cashback while holding ETH: ether.fi Cash, 3% up to the tier cap, unless you live in the Netherlands, Finland, Estonia or Hungary, where it is not offered.
- A GBP card in the UK: Krak holds sterling balances with no markup; ether.fi is available but charges 1% on pounds. Bleap does not serve the UK.
Six things to do before December 20
- Check you can open the wallet that owns your Safe. Sign in to the web app with it while it still exists, and confirm you have its recovery phrase stored safely. This is the one item nobody can fix for you afterwards: lose that wallet and the funds are unrecoverable.
- Consider adding a second owner to the Safe. In the web app: Account, Account details, Edit, Add address. It takes about three minutes to confirm and briefly restricts the card. After December 20 you would have to do this on-chain yourself. Any owner has full control, so add only a wallet you control.
- Check what pays into your IBAN. Salary, standing orders, friends. Redirect them to the new card, or move the IBAN to a wallet you use. The IBAN is managed with Monerium directly.
- Export your transaction history with the Download Card Transactions button on the web app’s main page. You will want it for tax and any future dispute, and reconstructing it later is slower.
- Raise anything outstanding now: refunds, disputes, a cashback you think is wrong. Support continues after the shutdown, but everything is simpler while the app is live.
- Activate the replacement card and move subscriptions, Apple Pay and Google Pay before December 20 so you are never without a working card. Bleap vs Gnosis Pay compares the closest match.
