Nº 6 Best credit line
Nexo Card review
Two cards in one: a debit card that pays interest on idle balances, and a credit line collateralised by your crypto. Clever — if you're deep enough in the Nexo ecosystem.
Licensing: Nexo holds no MiCA licence of its own. Its EEA setup runs through two licensed partners: Tangany, a BaFin-regulated and MiCAR-licensed custodian in Munich, holds client crypto, and DLT Finance in Frankfurt, licensed under MiCAR and MiFID II, is the trading counterparty. The card itself is issued by DiPocket UAB in Lithuania. That is a regulated structure, but your counterparty for the platform remains Nexo, which is why we score it as custodial.
The Nexo Mastercard switches between Debit Mode — spend balances that meanwhile earn daily interest — and Credit Mode, borrowing against your portfolio so you never sell (useful for tax deferral in some jurisdictions). Cashback applies in Credit Mode: up to 2% in NEXO tokens or 0.5% in BTC depending on loyalty tier.
What works
- Unique dual debit/credit design, no annual fee
- Idle balances earn daily interest in Debit Mode
- Borrow against BTC/ETH instead of selling
- Free ATM allowance scaling with tier
What doesn't
- Good rates require holding NEXO tokens; most perks need a ~$5k portfolio
- Fully custodial platform risk; MiCA coverage comes via partners, not a Nexo licence
- Headline low borrow rates apply only at top tier / low LTV
- Physical card issuance has been paused at times
Who it's for: larger portfolios that want a standing credit line against their crypto with a card attached — not cashback maximisers.
